Paulo Climachauska at the Vancouver Biennale

03.12.2014

Paulo Climachauska participates at the Vancouver Biennale with Red Fortune, artwork inspired on the opening of the Canadian territories and migration flows. The train line represented in the work evokes the Canadian Pacific Railway, a railroad that was essential to the construction of Canada as a nation. The Chinese Wall and the fortune cookies are a reference to the great Chinese immigration to Canada, which was prompted by the construction of the railway. The artist will also participate in a moderated discussion, featuring five breakthrough Brazilian artists participating in the Biennale International Residency Program, about how art can be used to ignite social action in today’s struggle for human rights, new economic systems and environmental changes. Inspired by Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream”, this is the first of a series of free public talks featuring artists from a diversity of cultural, political and historical backgrounds coming together in celebration of freedom of artistic expression to openly discuss issues of global impact.
