The Movimento Repouso exhibition, by Raul Mourão, will be on display at Roberto Alban Galeria de Arte, from September 13th to October 24th.
The exhibition displays 10 kinetic sculptures in corten steel and 34 photographs of the Timeline series, made between 2012 and 2013. The pieces are the result of the work produced by the artist in his studio, inspired on the Intrépida Trupe dance company.
According to Mourão, the presence of the public is essential to give movement to the sculptures, where the rigid and subtleties characteristics fof the material converse through pendular movements. In fact, in the exhibition catalogue, Frederico Coelho says the pieces invite viewers to dance.
In the Timeline photos series, Mourão focuses on landscapes and subarchitectures of cities such as Rio de Janeiro, New York, São Paulo and London. Balconies of buildings, sports equipments, furniture, and other unusual objects serve as inspiration for the artist.
